Close your eyes and envision yourself savoring a warm, buttery piece of popcorn. The best pitches are just like popcorn - quick, engaging, and guaranteed to leave everyone wanting more! In the world of public relations, making a lasting impression is critical. Just like that perfect bag of popcorn, an ideal pitch has to just burst with flavor and excitement.
At the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) event last Thursday, students had the opportunity to hone their pitching skills in an encouraging and relaxed environment over a bag of buttery popcorn goodness. They learned from Kevin Harrington, a past Shark on reality TV show Shark Tank, the proven, three-part pitch process that he has used to produce over five billion dollars.
Here are the three key elements he shared to crafting the perfect pitch:
Tease ‘Em
It’s important to get your audience’s attention with a problem. They identify with the problem and they want to hear what the solution is to their new issue.
Please ‘Em
Next, solve the problem in a powerful way. Show your listeners examples and demonstrations of the solution and benefits that come with your product or service. You can draw in your audience by incorporating a magical transformation to demonstrate the before and after. Including several testimonials will add to the validity of your statement.
Seize ‘Em
This final closing step is making the offer irresistible to your audience. The crowd needs an incentive to act fast and buy now, so give them a reason to take action.
Now that you are a product pitching pro, use your skills to make your presentations pop! Your potential for pitching is boundless, so embrace the challenge and let your proposals shine!
